The Key Stage 5 Level 3 Travel and Tourism is a BTEC Course provided by Pearson’s BTEC. The course comprises of 4 units. Two of these units are internally assessed coursework units and two are externally assessed examinations. Students will sit one examination in Year 12 and one examination in Year 13.
Students will start Year 12 exploring The World of Travel and Tourism, focusing on the types of travel and tourism and looking at the products and services provided by travel and tourism organisations to their customers. Students will then consider the scale of the travel and tourism industry and factors that affect the industry.
In the second half of year 12 students will complete a coursework unit looking at the Principles of Marketing in Travel and Tourism.
Moving into Year 13 Students will begin to look at Global Destination and the factors affecting the appeal of these destinations. This unit will be externally assessed comprising of Part A research task and a Part B written task.
Students finish the course looking at Visitor Attractions and will compare visitor attractions in an internally assessed piece of coursework. Students will consider how they meet diverse customer needs and expectations, and how visitor attractions respond to competition. This course is suitable for students who have a keen interest in the world of travel and tourism and who would be considering a career in this field.
