Careers Education at Kettering Buccleuch Academy

At Kettering Buccleuch Academy, we’re passionate about preparing Sixth Form students for life beyond school. Whether students are aiming for university, a degree apprenticeship, an apprenticeship or employment, our careers programme is designed to help them explore options, build skills, and make confident decisions about their future.

Our Careers Programme Focuses On:

  • Self-Development – Understanding your strengths and building key skills.
  • Application Support – Providing students with the skills to prepare essential next steps applications
  • Career Exploration – Investigating pathways and understanding the job market.
  • Career Management – Planning your next steps and adapting to change.

These themes are supported by our values of Respect, Ambition, and Determination, and aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks for high-quality careers education.

Opportunities for Year 12 & 13 Students:

  • Unifrog Careers Platform – A powerful tool for researching universities, apprenticeships, and careers, used across all year groups.
  • University Engagement – Including visits, workshops, and support from UniConnect and the University of Northampton.
  • Work Shadowing (Year 12) – Real-world experience to support career choices.
  • 1:1 Careers Interviews – Available on request through our partnership with Prospects.
  • UCAS & Apprenticeship Support – Help with applications, personal statements, and interview prep.
  • Employer Engagement – Talks, site visits, mentoring, and enterprise activities.
  • Mock Interviews & CV Workshops – Practical preparation for future applications.
  • In house work experience – Opportunities for students to work with both primary and secondary years as classroom helpers
  • Alumni Network – Connect with former students for inspiration and advice.
  • Industry Related Opportunities – Trips and visits to real life businesses 
  • Oxbridge Programme – Targeted and tailored Oxbridge programme including support with testing, applications and mock interviews
  • Trips and Enrichment – International and national travel opportunities linked to academic subjects

We also work closely with SEMLEP and the Careers & Enterprise Company to ensure our programme meets national standards and reflects the needs of today’s job market.
