We currently offer VCERT courses at KS4 which are intended to allow students to have a much more hands on experience and to develop a wide range of practical skills.
- VCERT Level 2 Certificate in Creative Studies: Craft
- VCERT Level 2 Certificate in Food and Cookery
Students have access to 2 purpose built Food rooms and a very well equipped Textiles workshop which are also available for students to use after school if they wish to extend their learning further. We encourage students to problem sole in a very creative manner allowing them to develop their confidence within a range of skill areas. We try to empower students with a very thorough knowledge and understanding of each assessment criteria in order to allow them to progress in a more independent manner.
The courses are both split into 4 units which have equal weightings of 25% and contain an externally assessed element in unit 3
Creative Studies: Craft
Over the three years you will be completing lots of mini projects which will allow you to build up your knowledge and skills. To gain the qualification you will complete the following 4 units:
- Exploring craft and enterprise skills (internal assessment)
- Research and develop design ideas for craft items (internal assessment)
- Respond to a craft brief (external assessment)
- Produce final craft work (internal assessment)
This course very much focuses on the wider world of design and allows students to prepare themselves for creative careers in a wide range of different fields. Students can progress onto Level 3 BTEC or onto the more traditional A level Design courses. Students may go on to become designers, manufacturers, buyers, marketers, engineers or fabricators – The possibilities are endless!!!!
Food and Cookery:
This qualification is designed for learners who have an interest in food and cookery. It will provide learners with experience of using different cooking techniques and methods to enable them to use these within further education or apprenticeships. It will give them a basic understanding of the skills required for a career in food.
The course will allow students to
Develop and nurture students' practical cookery skills to give them a strong understanding of nutrition and food production processes
Allow students to gain confidence in the kitchen and the ability to deal with food in an informed yet creative way.
So what will I study?

- Plan and Produce Dishes in Response to a Brief (Internally assessed)
This course very much focuses on the wider world of food and nutrition and aims to prepare students for careers within the food and hospitality sectors. This may lead on to BTEC level 3 qualifications or allow students to secure apprenticeships.
