The GCSE Child Development course will seek to encourage an understanding of the overall needs of young children and the social and environmental influences that affect their development in a contemporary, changing and multicultural society.  Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Increase your knowledge and understanding of human needs, the interdependence of individuals and groups, and the influence of social, cultural and economic factors.
  • Foster your critical and analytical approach to decision making and problem solving.
  • Develop the knowledge and skills required for the effective and safe management of relevant resources.

Supplies Needed:

You will need general stationary (pens, pencils), and a memory stick would be very helpful. 

Course Content:

B011 – Short Tasks (30%) - Internal

  • Leaflet Task (10%) – Make a leaflet for a pregnant woman
  • Book Task (10%) – Make an educational book for a 4 year old
  • Food Task (10%) – Compare homemade and shop bought baby food

B012 – Child Study Task (30%) - Internal

  • Research, plan and observe activities for a child of your chosen age.
  • Compare this child’s skills to those that are the ‘norm’

B013 – Principles of Child Development (40%) - External (1 hour 30 mins - 80 marks)
