Department Leader: Phil Henton

Our students follow OCR's Advanced Level Media Studies course.

This is a contemporary, accessible and creative course which allows students to study the media in an academic context and apply the knowledge and understanding gained to the process of creating their own media productions.

OCR’s A Level in Media Studies is designed to widen the intellectual horizons of every student through the analysis of both global and historical media. Throughout the course we foster the development of critical and reflective thinking to encourage engagement in the critical debates surrounding contemporary media.

The subject content of the course gives students the opportunity to engage confidently with critical and theoretical approaches from the perspectives of both analytical consumers and producers of media products.

It is our strong desire that Advanced Level Media Studies should inspire students and develop an aspiration within them to continue learning beyond the confines of the classroom as well as developing personal and interpersonal skills that will serve them well both in Higher Education and in the workplace.

Previous students who have studied Advanced Level Media Studies have gone on to enjoy successful careers in the media and other creative industries.
