We are open daily from 8.00 am until 4.30 pm for students to come and read or complete homework. Students can come in before school, at break, at lunchtime and after school. We are here to help you – if you need help with your homework or need guidance over book selections, just ask.
We have 6 networked computers and a bank of 15 laptops available for loan during the day.
Mrs Piggott has worked in school libraries throughout Northamptonshire for the past 17 years. She can’t decide on a favourite book but loves last year’s Carnegie winning author, Kevin Brooks.
Students at KBA will be assessed 3 times this year using Star Reading.
• A computer-adaptive skill-based assessment linked to the requirements of the National Curriculum.
• Used to determine your students’ reading levels for Accelerated Reader
• Measures progress over time
Accelerated Reader is used for our KS3 students to improve their literacy levels. Accelerated Reader is a powerful tool for monitoring and managing independent reading practice and motivating reading for pleasure.
• A database of over 25,000 quizzes to ensure comprehension of books read
• Provides instant feedback and reports for monitoring
• Helps create a culture of reading
Every student in Key Stage 3 will have an independent reading level and target to achieve each term. Students are given 20 minutes reading time every day in school. Additionally, they will have a lesson in the library every 2 weeks to ensure they have ample time to achieve these targets.
To take a quiz, the following site should be visited:
Visit www.arbookfind.co.uk to search the database to see if a book has a quiz and to check level.
We are constantly adding new books to the system, if there are books you would like to read but we don’t currently have it, come and speak to us and we will do our best to stock it.
Book club meets in the Library every Wednesday after school. For the past few months we have been Shadowing Carnegie, an annual event to select the best Young Adult fiction book published in the previous year. We held a celebratory party at the end of the process on the day the winner was announced.
Each session starts with a fun activity then we will then read or do a reading based activity. At the end there will be discussions on books that we are currently reading, and peer recommendations. It really is a fun-filled hour.
