House System

The House System at Kettering Buccleuch Academy underpins all of the work that we do.

Our four Houses, Braveheart, Griffin, Phoenix and Viking, draw their identities from the four quadrants of the coat of arms of the Duke of Buccleuch.

We firmly believe that the sense of identity and belonging created through the House System allows all students and staff to play their part in making us an exceptional and unique learning environment.

Throughout the year, and across all ages of the academy, our House Championship provides opportunities for healthy competition and fun through a wide range of competitions. Each competition has a set number of House Points which are allocated to Houses once results have been decided.

Members of staff also have an allocation of 2 House Points per term which can be awarded to students who achieve a 'beyond outstanding' outcome or display a 'beyond outstanding' behaviour as well as 1 House Point per term for a colleague.

House Points are added to our House Championship Totaliser with the winning House being awarded the Buccleuch Cup at the end of Term 6.

The current holders of the Buccleuch Cup are Griffin House.

Each House is led by a senior member of staff in the role of Head of House. Heads of House are supported by a team of tutors. Students hold elections each year to appoint their House Leaders and House Captains.

The final Big Reveal of the year will take place on Thursday 19th July when the winners of The Buccleuch Cup will be formally announced.

The theme for this year's competition is 'The World Around Us' and winning entries and runners up will have their work displayed around the academy.

The competition is open to all students, parents and staff and, with nearly everyone having a good quality camera on their phone, there is no need to have expensive photography equipment.

All entries must be sent via email to Mr Henton (philiphenton@kba.uk) by midnight on Friday 1st December.

Please ensure that you title your email House Photography Entry and include your full name and the House you are a member of.

Good luck everyone!
