KS3 Testing - Revision materials

Key Stage 3 Testing Window – Week Beginning 12th March

All students in Key Stage 3 sit termly tests in English, Mathematics and Science in order to prepare them for the GCSE examinations and for us to identify the progress that students are making.  The next Key Stage testing window begins on Monday, 12th March and I wanted to use this opportunity to outline the timings of these examinations, where and when you can view the results, some information regarding the tests and how students will prepare for those examinations.

Timings and Information:

• All English, Mathematics and Science examination will be held in the sports hall.

• Students will also sit assessments in History, Geography and MFL.  These will take place within subject lessons but could be the week before or after the English, Mathematics and Science testing week.

• The KS3 English tests are adapted versions of the current GCSE English Language examinations. 

• This term, all KS3 students will sit an age-appropriate test designed to measure their abilities in reading and writing.

• Section A of the paper will involve students reading some unseen materials and answering four questions on those materials. 

• Section B requires students to write a piece of descriptive or narrative writing.



• The Mathematics examinations will assess students on all topics taught during the first three terms. 

• Students will be provided with a topic list and set homework to assist with their preparation.



The Year 7 and 8 tests will cover all the material delivered between the start of the academic year to before February half term.

The Year 9 test will cover all the material delivered between the start of the academic year to Christmas.  None of the GCSE content will be assessed.
